The FireMed Program Fully Covers its Members in Emergencies, No Matter How Often You Need it. FireMed Also Covers Allowable, Non-Emergency Service.
To qualify the Transport must be:
- Physician Authorized
- Medically Necessary
How is this Defined?
Allowable non-emergency service is for conditions that require the use of a stretcher for the patient's safety. If you are confined to a bed and unable to sit in a wheelchair, you may be eligible. These services must be pre-authorized by a physician.

What is not covered?
If patients can safely ride in a sitting position, they do not qualify for non-emergency ambulance service. Your doctor will help you decide if you qualify.
How is a request for FireMed authorized non-emergency ground service made?
Your doctor will arrange non-emergency, ground-ambulance service. Transport is available 24 hours a day, but will be second priority behind emergency 9-1-1 calls. Remember, if in doubt about your condition, call 9-1-1 immediately.
